How long should it take to drive from L.A. to the Oregon border up I-5 and does anyone have any advice or?

suggestions regarding best times to do it to avoid traffic and a cheap, but safe place to stop for some rest/sleep. I'll be doing the drive alone and have never taken the I-5 before so any feedback is appreciated. How long should it take to drive from L.A. to the Oregon border up I-5 and does anyone have any advice or?
you can make the drive by yourself and make there same day from Orange County.

Just leave midday as you avoid the traffic in LA. This also will help avoid any possible delays through the grapevine (in case this storm coming in brings any snow).

If you are looking to take your time and make it a scenic trip then go up the 101 instead. The drive along the ocean is much better than looking at Bakersfield ;)

Salinas or San Luis Obispo are both reasonable areas to hold over. Though my family always enjoys stopping in Buelton (sp?) to get the famous Split Pea Soup at Andersons (you cant miss it). This area was also in the movie Sideways.

Lake Shasta is probably the most beautiful area in the state. If you can see Mt. Shasta and Shasta Lake during the day it is a worthy venture.

If you are really looking for cheap, go to the CA.GOV website and click on roadmaps and stay in a rest area. You can only stay for 8 hours but if you lock yourself in the car you can stay for free ;)How long should it take to drive from L.A. to the Oregon border up I-5 and does anyone have any advice or?
probably as long as your car runs on the gas!!!!
Go to google maps and enter your starting point and where exactly you want to finish and it will give you the miles and approx time
I've never done it, but I have driven over 600,000 miles in my 26 years of driving.

I suggest making sure your tires are safe and properly inflated. Have a good spare handy just in case, as well as all necessary tools to change it if needed.

Make sure your fluid levels are up to where they should be...oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, washer fluid, etc.

Take maps and an atlas.

Cell phone with emergency numbers, as well as AAA if you are a member.

Don't try to drive if you're too tired. Caffeine does NOT safely replace sleep.

Take extra money for unexpected expenses.

Insurance card and information.

Hope this helps. Have a fun and safe trip!
Probably the worst traffic you would have to worry about is in L.A. Since you live there you should be able to guage a good time to leave. I would suggest very early morning.

You should definetely stop by Harris ranch in between Sacramento and L.A. on the I-5, their steak is great.

Remember in Oregon it is illegal to pump your own gas. Really, no kidding.
