I need advice on how to eliminate debt.?

I know that the economy is in a horrible state. And I will be honest and say that I let my spending get out of hand. I want to eliminate my debt does anyone know of a good source to contact, such as those credit relief? I've researched online and there are so many. How do I know if its legit? And is there anyone who has used any of these services or does anyone know how they work? I seem to be losing sleep over this because it is stressful and I really want to solve this problem. Thanks.I need advice on how to eliminate debt.?
Those credit relief programs are not a good idea in my opinion. Only a handful actually offer services that can help you instead of harm you. You do not give specifics about they types of accounts you hold, but there are some good things to try that fit just about everyone's situation. Fist, and probably the easiest to do but hardest to follow, make a budget. Cut out *all* unnecessary spending. Do NOT stop having fun, instead budget for it. Make allowance for movie night and eating out. You will continue to do these things and instead of breaking the bank plan for it. When you sit down and see how you spend your money every month you will see how much money you waste without realizing it. That 4 dollar cup of coffee every morning adds up quickly, 4*5=20, 20*4=80. $80 a month for one cup of coffee every day, doesn't hardly seem worth it when you break it down like that. Coffee is just an example. Only you know what your little vices are. Quitting smoking is another good way to save some money. I did so about a year ago and it is amazing how much more cash I have in my pocket. Again, just an example. Second, get together all of your monthly credit card statements, I assume you have more than one because of the comment about over spending. Look at them closely to see what your finance charges, annual fees, Annual Percentage Rates (APR) and any other fees you may be paying are. If you have high interest rates then you may want to look into a personal loan from your bank. You will need very good credit with collateral to get it, but I can almost guarantee that the interest you will pay will be lower. Another option might be to get a card that offers 0% on balance transfers. Just be careful of the fee they charge, it seems to be 3% for most companies so do some homework to see if the 0% with a fee will actually save you money. Whatever you choose and/or get approved for pay off the account(s) that will cost you the most to leave as is. Third, stop using credit completely. Until you have it under control you need to put the cards away. Cut them up, lock them in a save, put them in a safe deposit box, anything. Just do not use them. Fourth, get a second/third job and apply all of the extra income to your debts. You will also find that by working more you have less time to spend so that is an added bonus. Just remember whatever you decide to make time to have fun. I know and have know too many people that live to work and they just never seem to be happy.

A motto that I try to live by is this: Live within your means, do not carry

a balance, and do not make money the center of your life.

If you can do those three things you will be one step close to a happier existence. Good luck to you...I need advice on how to eliminate debt.?
Those companies don't do anything for you you can't do for yourself.

1. Start tracking your spending; every penny. I use Quicken. You will be surprised how much you are spending in many areas. I know I was. Look at discretionary things like going out to eat, impulse purchases, etc.

2. Use the above information to control your spending. This will free up cash.

3. Put your credit cards in a locked drawer. Don't use them until you are able to pay them off in full every month.

4. Use the cash from your spending controls to start paying off your debt. Start with the smallest ones because you can pay them off the quickest. When you free up cash from that, put the cash toward the next debt. The amount of cash available will ';snowball'; as you get debt paid off.

5. Make a budget and stick to it!

We live on a budget. We are completely debt free and have credit scores in the 800s.
that was some good advice. u can also cut up ur credit cards so u r not tempted to use them do NOT cancel the account as that will show up bad on your credit. it will not stop the interest charges only the monthly or yearly fees whatever apply. this way u can pay on the balance without charging more. if u want to keep one for emergency use ONLY then that is up to u but this way u will be paying ur bills down without adding to the cards. good luck.
Using a debt settlement program could allow you to lower your monthly payments and be out of debt in 3 years. Typically, you pay the money into a trust account that you control to ensure nothing shady happens. I have seen it work time and again.
